PHOTO: Topping the market at a high 710c/kg at the new WVLX Spring Drop Weaner Sale was this pen of Angus Weaner Steers which Elders Kerr & Co sold on behalf of Ardonachie Holdings, returning $1592 per head.

Yarding: 4,439

Our new May Spring Drop Weaner Sale yarded just shy of 4500 cattle, which sold to a very strong demand once again.

There was a very well-bred lineup of steers selling to a highly competitive market. The top end of the black calves that weighed 250-300kg went under the hammer for 620 to 660c/kg, with these calves coming out at $1650-$1800ph.

The steers either side of 200kg made in excess of 700c/kg quite regularly.

The black weaner heifers which were bought to go back to the paddock to breed with, sold strongly with those weighing 250-300kg making between 570 and 640c/kg. These were highlighted by the Pardoo heifers that sold to solid competition.

The best of the heifers either side of 200kg made from 600 to 620c/kg.

Overall a great sale at Mortlake which tops off a very big week with over 10,000 cattle sold at WVLX in the last 8 days! The total average of all cattle sold at the weaner sale was 562c/kg, so an outstanding result and our congratulations to all vendors for presenting their cattle in such excellent condition.
