COWS GENERALLY FIRM TO DEARER

Agents yarded 503 at Mortlake market today being an increase of 93 on last week, comprising 230 export and 309 trade cattle as well as 8 bulls. Quality overall was not as good this week, more so in the trade offering. Not all of the regular buyers were present and the feeder competition was softer. 

The cattle sale was generally firm for the better quality offerings however, secondary cattle back to the paddock were cheaper by 10c to 15c/kg. Cows over most grades were firm to slightly dearer in places more so on the better end with dairy cows being 20c/kg stronger. Manufacturing steers were slightly dearer. Vealers with shape sold from 440c to 502c/kg with restockers paying up to 602c/kg. Yearling steers and heifers made between 465c and 528c/kg. Grown steers and heifers were making between 385c and 484c/kg.

Manufacturing Steers sold to 440c/kg. Best beef cows to 380c/kg with the general run making between 320c and 375c/kg. Medium weight Cows sold from 244c to 306c/kg. Dairy Cows sold between 290c to 344c/kg with the better bred cows returning to the paddock from 240c to 324c/kg.
