FIRM TO SLIGHTLY DEARER MARKET TODAY

After an absence of three weeks, numbers jumped back up to 826 at Mortlake this week where the quality was from very good to plain. More activity with the trade cattle offering where a minimum 60% of the yarding was purchased to feed on or return to the paddock. 

A full field of regular buyers presented with all not fully active in a market that was firm to slightly dearer than previous sales and quality driven. 

There were some excellent vealers offered that made to 700c/kg to average around 578c/kg. Yearling steers and heifers made to 604c/kg, averaging at 504c/kg with restockers purchasing the majority of the yarding. 

Grown steers and heifers sold to a top of 525c/kg to average 425c/kg. Fresian Steers sold to 366c/kg. A very good offering of cows, predominantly beef breeds, witnessed the best of these making to 380c/kg. 

The general run of cows made between 348c and 372c/kg with the lighter cows 290c to 348c/kg. Dairy Cows made to 280c/kg with cows back to the paddock selling 334 to 350c/kg
