MARKET FIRM IN MORTLAKE WITH BULLS DEARER

It was another average to good quality penning of 470 cattle, 109 more, that attracted a similar field of buyers. Demand was again strong with most categories of cattle selling around the price levels of last week. Beef bulls were the exception being 15c to 20c/kg dearer.

The handful of vealers made 490c to 565c/kg and mainly went to restockers. The few yearlings that sold to the trade were between 442c and 552c with most to restockers from 442c to 578c/kg. Dairy and plainer yearlings sold from 340c to 360c with restockers going to 405c and an odd sale even up to 452c/kg.

Restockers and processors paid mainly 440c to 495c for most of the grown steers and the best of the light weights to restock made 544c/kg. Grown heifers sold from 420c to 459c/kg.

Beef cows were between 364c and 430c with a single at 440c/kg. Lean conditioned dairy cows mainly sold from 340c to 370c with the few poor to plain cows between 220c and 315c/kg. Beef bulls made 329c to 360c/kg.
