MARKET REPORT – 22 JANUARY, 2018
Total Yarding: 2,047
This was the inaugural prime market sale at the WVLX saleyards in Mortlake. The yarding was, in the processor’s eyes, an outstanding yarding of quality cattle, especially the number of heavy steers and bullocks that were supplied, that sold to a top of 274c/kg.
The number of trade cattle that came forward provided an outstanding selection of quality grass-finished steers and the yarding of trade cattle showed a heavier supply of heifers. Plainer types of cattle for the first WVLX sale were in short supply. It was noted that milk vealers were not over-supplied, but also sold to a very good demand.
The yarding of cows comprised mainly of well-bred beef cows that met with very keen competition from cow processors that appreciated the sale being held on a Monday. Chopper cows were in light supply and also met with strong competition from the usual local market processors that attended.
Buyers included Teys Wagga, Teys Jindalee, MC Herd, Hardwicks, JBS Swift, RH Woodward & Co, Garrison Feedlot Swan Hill, Midfields, JH Ralph, AMG Dandenong, HW Greenham, Westside Meat, Thomas Food International, Gathercole, G & K O’Connor, Colonial Meat and Oakdale Meat.
