MARKET REPORT-PRIME CATTLE 18 MAY, 2020

A Strong buying crowd at today’s Prime Market with these 7 Grown Speckle Park Heifers from Mosaic Farms fetching 330c/kg, averaging $1584 per head. (Sold by Stewart Nash McVilly)

Agents yarded 1,064 cattle at Mortlake where the quality of the beef bred cattle offered was excellent in all sections especially in the bullock and trade cattle offered, however the dairy cattle were of a plainer quality. All the usual processors and feeders were present however not all fully active in a market that was firm to dearer by 10c to 30c/kg in places, again with feeders strongly underpinning the market. The market comprised of 265 bullocks, 419 trade cattle, 375 cows and 5 grown bulls.

There was some very good vealers on offer. Vealer heifers made to 425c and the steers sold to 420c/kg. Restockers paid 400c, these were up to 30c dearer, yearling steers made from 330c to 407c and the heifer portion paid from 305c to 388c/kg. Restockers paid to 405c with yearlings up 20c/kg.

Bullocks made from 300c to 390c and the grown heifers sold from 280c to 376c, with restockers paying to 385c, being 30c/kg stronger. Manufacturing steers made from 273c to 330c/kg. Heavy beef bred cows made from 280c to 318c, medium cows, beef bred, sold from 250c to 280c and the dairy bred cows made from 245c to 290c/kg. Cows were 10c to 15c dearer and grown bulls sold to 258c/kg.
