Market Report-Prime Cattle-1st June, 2020

Southern Grampians Livestock & Real Estate sold a pen of Angus heifers on behalf of J & M Lilley which sold for 400c/kg and averaged 330.8kg in weight.

Agents yarded 1,191 cattle at Mortlake in another good yarding of cattle with a quality range from plain excellent overall categories. All the regular processor buyers and feeders were present and active, however not all were fully active in a market that was firm to marginally softer in places by 5c to 10c/kg. Again, feeders strongly underpinned the market. The market consisted of 399 bullocks, 430 trade cattle, 360 cows and 2 grown bulls.

As was last week, there was some very good milk vealers on offer with the steers making to 420c and the heifer portion selling to 420c, with feeders paying to 420c/kg. Yearling steers made from 295c to 391c with these being 10c softer and the heifer portion made from 295c to 447c, with feeders paying to 391c/kg.

There was another good lineup of bullocks this week and they made from 300c to 384c and the grown heifers sold from 295c to 366c/kg. These were 10c softer with feeders paying 355c/kg. Manufacturing steers made from 264c to 380c/kg. There was a very good offering of cows both beef and dairy bred where the heavy beef bred cows made from 265c to 298c, medium beef bred cows sold from 230c to 260c, the good dairy bred cows with cover sold from 220c to 275c and the light cows made from 170c to 210c/kg. Cows were 10c/kg easier. Grown beef bred bulls sold to 274c/kg.
