MARKET REPORT-PRIME CATTLE-2 MARCH, 2020

Ken Mowat & son Chris presented 2 pens of  well conditioned Angus cows at today’s Prime Market, Ralphs Meats paying  287c/kg, averaging $1997.04 per head! (Sold by Elders Kerr & Co)

 

Total Yarding: 820

Prices continue to increase at Mortlake where agents yarded 820 cattle where the quality in a mixed yarding for the trade cattle and bullocks was average to good and the offering of cows was much better than last week. All the usual processors attended and most operated fully. Restockers were again strong pushing trade buyers all throughout the sale. There weren’t as many good milk vealers on offer this week and they were 10c/kg up. The yearling steers and heifers were 10c/kg higher. Grown steers and heifers were 5c to 10c better and cows also dearer by 5c to 10c and the light cows were up by 20c/kg. The yarding comprised of 138 bullocks, 453 trade cattle, 217 cows and 12 bulls.

Milk vealers made from 338c to 360c with restockers paying to 350c/kg. Yearling steers sold from 298c to 360c and heifers made from 295c to 354c/kg.

Grown steers made from 285c to 355c/kg. Restockers paid to 335c and grown heifers sold from 271c to 354c, with restockers paying to 338c/kg. Manufacturing steers made from 234c to 305c/kg. Cows, C3 and C4, made from 250c to 287c/kg. The C2 cows sold from 220c to 224c, while the light cows made from 173c to 210c, with restockers paying to 244c/kg. Beef bred bulls made to 284c/kg.
