MARKET REPORT-PRIME CATTLE-25 MAY, 2020

Total Yarding: 1’243

Agents yarded 1,243 cattle at Mortlake in another good yarding of cattle where the quality ranged from plain to excellent over all categories. All the regular processor buyers and feeders were present and active however not all were fully active in a market that was firm to slightly dearer in places, mainly on the restocker and feeder cattle, and again feeders strongly underpinning the market. The market consisted of 322 bullocks, 443 trade cattle, 462 cows and 7 grown bulls.

As was last week, there were some very good vealers on offer with the steers making to 406c and the heifer portion selling to 400c, with restockers paying to 406c/kg. Yearling steers made from 305c to 416c and the heifer portion made from 300c to 401c and restockers paying to 416c/kg.

There was a good lineup of bullocks and they made from 300c to 380c and the grown heifers sold from 290c to 400c with restockers paying to 355c/kg. Manufacturing steers made from 265c to 298c/kg. Heavy beef bred cows made from 290c to 321c, medium beef breeds sold from 250c to 290c, light cows made from 185c to 235c and the dairy cows sold from 210c to 242c/kg. Grown bulls sold to 258c/kg.
