Agents yarded 400 cattle at Mortlake today a similar number to last week. The yarding was again mixed and plainer than last week. All the regular buyers except one regular processor were in attendance and were active. Feeders were also very strong today on a market for the trade and grown cattle to be firm and for the small number of cows offered they were slightly softer to be 10c/kg cheaper again. The offering consisted of 77 bullocks, 281 yearlings, 38 cows and 4 bulls.
Yearling steers to the trade, 3 and 4 score, made from 260c to 290c and the heifer portion sold from 236 to 265c/kg.
The C3 and C4 grown steers made from 262c to 304c and the heifer portion made between 268c to 300c/kg. Manufacturing steers made from 180c to 244c/kg. The small offering of cows was mixed in quality. The light 1 and 2 score cows made from 164c to 210c the medium C2 cows made from 200c to 220c and the heavy weight C3 and C4 cows made from 230c to 238c/kg. Bulls with shape made from 230c to 240c, to be 20c/kg cheaper.
