J.M Ellis & Co client Carlsfield Plains Partnership presented a charolais heifer at today’s Prime Cattle Market which topped the heifer portion at 410c/kg, returning $1549.80!

There was an increase in numbers to 535 cattle at Mortlake this week. The offering of steers and trade cattle was excellent together with a good run of cows where all weights and grades were available. All the regular buyers were present but not all active. There was stronger activity from feeders this week in a market that was fully firm for grown steers and trade cattle, with all cows softer by 5c and in some places 10c/kg. The yarding comprised of 91 bullocks, 247 trade cattle, 194 cows and 3 grown bulls.
Milk vealers, to the trade, made from 384c to 423c/kg. Yearling steers, to the trade, realised 365c to 414c/kg. The heifer portion made from 380c to 407c with feeders and restockers paying to 396c/kg. The grown steers made from 330c to 400c/kg. Grown heifers sold from 340c to 382c, with feeders paying to 350c/kg. Manufacturing steers realised 265c to 329c/kg. The heavy beef bred cows sold from 290c to 310c/kg. Medium weight beef bred cows sold from 240c to 260c/kg. The very well covered dairy cows sold from 245c to 260c/kg. Medium weight dairy cows made from 220c to 240c/kg. Cows back to the paddock sold to 276c/kg. Grown beef bulls made to 254c/kg.
