PHOTO: This large pen of Angus bullocks on account of Ron Luzinat & Aina Zalitis topped the category at 466c/kg in Mortlake today under the Elders Kerr & Co hammer, averaging $3260ph.

Numbers fell by 282 to 453 head at WVLX Mortlake comprising 265 export and 188 trade. Most of the regular buyers were present, however, not all were fully active. Feeder competition was still active but more subdued for the trade cattle. The quality on offer was much the same as previous sales. 

The market was erratic at times to be softer over most categories. Cows lost 30c/kg. Grown and yearling steers including heifers, were back by 10c to 15c/kg whilst manufacturing steers were firm to slightly softer. 

Vealers made from 500c to 520c/kg to be cheaper by 30c/kg. Yearling Steers and Heifers to the trade made between 422c/kg and 510c/kg. Grown Steers and Heifers were making between 350c/kg and 500c/kg whilst feeders paid to 515c/kg. Manufacturing Steers were making between 330c/kg and 425c/kg. 

The general run of Beef cows made from 270c/kg to 355c/kg. A small number of dairy cows on offer made to 284c/kg. Cows back to the paddock sold from 210c/kg to 330c/kg. Beef bred bulls realized a top of 270c/kg.
