MIXED YARDING WITH PRICES MOSTLY FIRM

Quality was again mixed at WVLX Mortlake but mainly good for the near regular field of buyers of which not all operated or operated fully in the yarding of 654 cattle 49 more. Prices remained close to last week for vealers and yearling steers however heifers eased slightly. Grown steers averaged 10c/kg less but the friesians were closer to unchanged. Beef cows gained 10c, aided by strong restocker competition and bulls lifted 20c to 30c/kg.

Most vealers sold between 498c and 558c with restockers going to 565c/kg. All the yearling steers went to restockers and they paid mainly 440c to 550c/kg. The yearling heifers were from 430c to 510c for most, with tops to the trade at 528c and restockers went to 522c/kg.

Beef cows made 310c to 365c and restockers paid 314c to 414c/kg. The leaner cows were from 256c to 280c and restockers paid 273c to 370c/kg. Poorer conditioned cows were down to 165c/kg. Beef bulls made 300c, 312c and 330c/kg.
