SALE UP BY 10-15c/kg OVER MOST CATEGORIES

PHOTO: The best steer in this pen of Charolais X cattle sold by HF Richardson made a top of 600c/kg while the top heifer made 590c/kg, returning $2052 and $1912ph respectively for CK Bassett at WVLX Mortlake.

Total Yarding: 593

Numbers decreased this week at Mortlake to yard 593 head comprising 220 export and 373 trade cattle. Quality was very good and there were some excellent lines of well bred finished young cattle and grown steers on offer. A near full field of regular buyers were present however not all were fully active.

Despite this, the sale was very strong to be 10c to 15c/kg dearer over most categories. Beef cows were stronger again by 15 to 20c/kg whilst dairy cows remained firm. 

Vealers with shape sold from 525c to 660c/kg. Yearling Steers and Heifers made between 490c and 585c/kg. Grown Steers and heifers sold to a top of 528c/kg with majority making between 468c and 518c/kg.

Manufacturing Steers made up to 362c/kg. Best Beef cows to 383c/kg with the general run making between 345c and 382c/kg. Medium Cows sold from 280c to 360c/kg. Dairy cows sold between 280c to 368c/kg with the better bred Cows back to the paddock for restockers selling from 216c/kg to 376c/kg.
