STRONG SALE TO KICK OFF APRIL

PHOTO: Nutrien Ag sold this pen of Angus Weaner heifers for a top today of 700c/kg (213kg), returning just shy of $1500ph for SB Lees & J Rissman.

Yarding: 1,601

Once again we had another very strong sale here in Mortlake at the start of April that saw 1601 cattle yarded.

There was a lot of competition on the grown steers where well bred lines of Angus steers sold from 580-618c/kg. Two vendors had the top price of 618c/kg – Glencoe Farm Trust with 21 Angus grown steers weighing 475kg which returned $2936ph, while TB Merrett & BS Voigt had 50 Angus grown steers weighing 448kg which returned $2768ph.

Weaner steers sold strong again with northern enquiry and local enquiry on these. SB Lees & J Rissman had the top c/kg price for their pen of Angus cattle that sold for 794c/kg, returning $1965ph.

The heifer portion of the sale probably wasn’t quite as strong as last sale’s extremely high rates, however vendors were once again pleased with their results. Grown heifers reached $2829ph for CJ & JA Roycroft’s Angus pen that sold for 564c/kg, while LF Williams’ pen of Angus weaner heifers reached $2401ph when HF Richardson sold them for 636c/kg.

The heavier cross bred cattle sold very well, with Alkira Pastoral Co. selling three pens of their Angus X and Hereford X steers for 520c/kg, averaging just over $2000ph.

There was more competition from AuctionsPlus today, mainly from buyers in the north, which was pleasing and certainly strengthened the sale.  Congratulations to all involved and we look forward to the next store sale on Thursday 21st April at 10am. Happy Easter!
