TRADE & GROWN CATTLE LIFT 5-10C/KG

PHOTO: Nutrien Ag sold these 355kg Hereford steers at WVLX Mortlake for the market top of 600c/kg on behalf of RJ & JK Vance, averaging $2130ph.

Agents yarded 511 head at WVLX Mortlake comprising 312 export and 194 trade. Most of the regular buyers were present, however, not all were fully active. Feeder competition was very active for grown cattle as well as trade cattle. The quality on offer was again good to be similar to last week’s offering. 

The sale was strong resulting in the grown cattle and trade cattle improving an additional 5c to 10c/kg in places. Manufacturing steers remained firm with cows unchanged to slightly softer over most categories. A very small number of vealers on offer made up to 600c/kg.

Yearling Steers and Heifers to the trade made between 480c/kg and 554c/kg. Grown Steers and Heifers were making between 440c/kg and 525c/kg. Manufacturing Steers sold to a top of 458c/kg. The general run of Beef cows were making between 360c/kg and 436c/kg. Dairy Cows sold from 288c/kg to 370c/kg with cows back to the paddock selling from 358c/kg to 386c/kg. Beef bred bulls realized a top of 378c/kg.
