Mortlake fortnightly store cattle sale yarded 4,360, quality improved across the yarding, mostly consisting of Angus bred cattle. A larger buying group were on the rail from South Australia, New South Wales, Northern Victoria, Gippsland and locally in a market that opened slightly softer on the heavy grown steers but soon gained momentum and become very strong over the lighter weight cattle, to end dearer across the yarding to the last store sale two weeks ago and the comparison market a month. The heavy grown steers lifted 10c, while the yearling steers and the lighter weights gained 15c to 35c/kg and more in places. Weaner Angus steers sold to a top of 518c/kg to be 30c to 50c dearer, with some sales up to 70c/kg better. Yearling heifers sold 10c to 25c stronger and the weaner heifers gained 10c to 30c, and in places sold to 45c/kg dearer.
Weaner Angus steers selling from 405c to 518c for the lighter weights and 412c to 500c/kg for the heavier steers. Black Baldys sold from 340c to 474c, Herefords made from 320c to 436c, and Euro x steers made from 344c to 382c/kg. Heavy Grown and yearling Angus steers sold from 390c to 438c, and the lighter weights made from 362c to 480c/kg. Black Baldys sold from 350c to 400c, Herefords made from 330c to 388c, and Euro x steers made from 330c to 380c/kg.
Weaner Angus heifers made from 272c to 445c, Black Baldys sold from 350c to 392c, and Euro x heifers made from 308c to 348c/kg. Grown and yearling Angus heifers sold from 320c to 400c/kg. Black Baldys sold from 350c to 400c, Herefords made from 330c to 388c, and Euro x heifers sold from 330c to 380c/kg.
