BULLOCK PRICES LIFT

PHOTO: Bullock prices lifted today at WVLX Mortlake with these Angus fellas making the top of 486c/kg under the Southern Grampians Livestock hammer, returning $3163ph for JC & VJ Lawson.

Total Yarding: 448

Prices were mainly unchanged for the yarding of 448 cattle, 205 less at WVLX Mortlake. Quality was mostly good with more finish penned this week. Extra restocker competition and one exporter back bidding put some upward pressure on prices for grown steers, cows and young cattle.

Vealers made from 460c to 554c with restockers paying 530c to 612c/kg. The yearlings were mainly heifers and sold between 430c and 475c with an odd steer sale to 505c and restockers paid to 535c/kg. Dairy and plainer yearlings made 320c to 402c with a top sale to a restocker of 488c/kg.

Processors and restockers paid 435c to 490c for grown steers and extra heavy weights were from 429c to 455c/kg. Friesians sold between 370c and 380c/kg.

Beef cows were from 320c to a top of 380c with the leaner cows between 260c and 326c/kg, aided by restocker competition. The poor to plainer conditioned cows mostly made 200c to 272c/kg, again aided by restockers. Beef bulls sold between 310c and 345c/kg with some passed in at these cheaper prices.
