A FOLLOW-UP PROJECT TO THE SUCCESSFUL SOUTH EASTERN LIVESTOCK EXCHANGE, WVLX IS AUSTRALIA’S NEWEST LIVESTOCK SELLING CENTRE.

The Western Victoria Livestock Exchange is located in the centre of the largest proportion of the region’s cattle population, just off the Hamilton Highway in Mortlake, South West Victoria.

Construction of the $15 million, 12 hectare world-class, regional livestock selling centre took just 8 months to complete. With a roof spanning the size of the MCG and around 2300 tonne of steel used to construct the 416 selling pens, the facility has the capacity to sell 3,000 cattle on any given sale day.

Extensive research into the design and functionality of the saleyards has achieved a world-class facility focused on animal safety and wellbeing, environmental sustainability and workplace health and safety.

10 ‘Foundation Agents’ have signed up to sell through the complex: Elders Kerr & Co, Landmark, Charles Stewart & Co, Southern Grampians Livestock, LMB Linke Livestock, Stewart Nash McVilly, HF Richardson & Co, Rodwells, JM Ellis & Co and Ray White Keatley.

The new WVLX facility will hold prime cattle markets every Monday at 9am with its FIRST EVER sale to be a prime market on Monday 22 January 2018. Store sales will be held monthly, with the first store sale scheduled for Thursday 1 February 2018 at 12 noon, and then monthly thereafter on the second Friday of each month from Friday 9 March 2018. There is also the opportunity for special dairy and beef sales in the 300 seat selling ring as needed.

Staff at WVLX

Joelene Moloney & Colleen Page.

Joelene Moloney & Colleen Page are always all smiles as they keep cattle moving from the selling arena to the weigh bridge. The horses are used to move cattle at the Western Victoria Livestock Exchange making it light work for drovers on foot. Our main goal to move cattle efficiently and to comply with low-stress livestock handling.
