COW PRICES LIFT BY 20C/KG

PHOTO: Cow prices lifted by 20c/kg today at WVLX Mortlake with these 3 Angus cows on account of Glencoe Farm Trust making a top of 456c/kg under the Elders Kerr & Co hammer, averaging a very handy $3025ph.  

Total Yarding: 221

Agents yarded 221 at Mortlake a similar number to last week comprising 130 export 90 trade. Most of the regular buyers were present with feeder competition being active. The quality on offer overall was similar to last week’s offering with cattle well covered in most categories. 

The sale was strong with all cows lifting 20c/kg and the manufacturing steers up by 10c to 15c/kg, however grown heifers and yearling heifers over 400 kg came back by 20c/kg. All other categories were firm to slightly dearer in places. Yearling Steers and Heifers to the Trade made between 450kc/kg and 550c/kg with feeders paying to 545c/kg. 

Grown Steers and heifers were making between 457c and 530c/kg. Manufacturing Steers sold to 428c/kg. Best Beef cows sold to a top of 456c with the general run making between 368c and 440c/kg. Dairy Cows sold from 310c to 380c/kg with Cows back to the paddock making from 324c to 368c/kg.
