COWS ON THE RISE AGAIN!

PHOTO: There were 3 pens of cows that made the top price of 440c/kg at WVLX Mortlake today including this pen of Angus girls on account of BD & AM Boyd Family Trust that Southern Grampians Livestock sold, returning $2954ph.

Total Yarding: 169

Agents yarded 169 head at WVLX Mortlake, a similar number to last week comprising 95 export, 70 trade and 4 Bulls. 

A small field of regular buyers attended as well as one additional processor for Cows. Feeder competition continued to be strong. The quality was from good to plain over most categories. The sale was generally firm over most categories of trade cattle however, the heavy beef cows were up to 30c/kg dearer in places, dairy cows eased by 10c/kg for the better end with the light cows stronger by up to 30c/kg. Bulls eased 10c/kg. 

The few vealers on offer made to 552c/kg to return to the paddock. Yearling Steers and Heifers made from 420c to 536c/kg whilst feeders paid up to 550c/kg. Grown Steers and Heifers made between 448c to 500c/kg. Manufacturing Steers sold to 380c/kg with the best Beef selling up to 440c/kg. 

Dairy Cows sold between 260c to 330c/kg. Light Dairy Cows 252c to 300c/kg. Grown beef bulls made to 325c/kg. Cows back to the paddock realised 412c to 440c/kg for the better end.
