MARKET REPORT – STORE/FEATURE FEMALE SALE – 17 JANUARY, 2019

PHOTO: Congratulations to Walter & Elise Dell of Nadoo Pastoral (Hawkesdale), along with children Tiffany (11) and Darcy (8) on their best presented pen of Heifers at today’s Store/Feature Female Sale at WVLX in Mortlake. This pen of 47 Angus Heifers was among 90 cattle they sold today, and along with being best presented it also topped the market at 274c/kg (ave weight 368kg). Walter and Elise are long time supporters of WVLX, having sold here since our first sale and are thrilled with how well the cattle are treated and presented at our facility.

Total Yarding: 2,106

For the January Store/Feature Female sale we had a good run of steers slightly down on quality due to the dry conditions, but still topping at 300c/kg, with most steers selling between 280-300c/kg.

Our Heifers topped at 274c/kg and made between 220-274c/kg with the bigger lines of heifers being bought to go back out and breed from.

There was a Ballangeich dispersal sale today and we sold 400 joined cows and heifers between $1600 and $1940 per head. These joined females were of the highest quality with many years of breeding behind them.

The Gilmour dispersal topped at $1875 per head and we also had Nampara PTIC Heifers which topped at $1940 per head. Cows and Calves sold to $1750 per head and were medium framed, which is firm on last sale.

Overall the market was firm to slightly cheaper which was expected due to seasonal conditions. There was a reasonable crowd, including buyers from Wodonga, Gippsland, Ballarat, Hamilton as well as local representation.
