MARKET REPORT – PRIME CATTLE – 19 AUGUST, 2019

PHOTO: Competition was hot for Heifers at today’s prime market in Mortlake! Sam Savin of Landmark knocked down this pen of Angus X Heifers for 302c/kg (av weight 572kg) and he also sold the top pen of the day – 5 Angus Heifers for 305c/kg (av weight 630kg), $1921.50ph.

Total Yarding: 215

Following another bitterly cold weekend again, numbers eased this week at Mortlake to 215 head. The offering was not as mixed and as plain as last week, however not all the processes were present or active at today’s sale due to the low numbers offered. Restockers and feeders were active on suitable lines, with the market generally unchanged to slightly dearer in some sections and more so in the cow section. The offering consisted of 25 bullocks, 114 trade cattle, 70 cows and six bulls.

Yearling steers to the trade sold to 280c, while the heifers to the trade made from 240c to 260c, with feeders paying up to 280c/kg.

C3 and C4 grown steers and bullocks made from 248c to 286c, with the heifer portion selling from 262c to a top of 305c/kg. Manufacturing bullocks sold to 285c/kg. Again there were some very good C3 and C4 beef cows, that sold to stronger competition this week, making from 252c to 381c/kg. Light cows sold from 190c to 250c/kg. The better bulls made from 224c to 280c/kg.
