MARKET REPORT – PRIME CATTLE – 16 SEPTEMBER, 2019

Total Yarding: 231

Agents yarded 231 cattle at the prime market in Mortlake today, representing a slight increase on last week’s numbers. The quality overall was much more even and not as mixed as the previous sale. This week’s sale was made up of predominantly beef bred cattle which sold to the regular field of processes, restockers and feeders. Not all the processors operated in a market that was firm on last week’s sale. The sale consisted of 11 bullocks, 126 yearlings, 87 cows and 6 bulls. 

Yearling steers to the trade made from 270c to a top of 300c/kg. Heifers to the trade made from 260c to 300c/kg. Feeders paid up to 290c/kg. 

C3 and C4 grown steers and bullocks made from 262c to a top of 310c/kg. Heifers made from 240c to 304c/kg with feeders paying up to 298c/kg. Manufacturing bullocks made to up 255c/kg. The offering of cows was made up of all beef bred cows and the quality was very good. The majority of the cows being D2, D3 and D4 cows, with very few light weight cows to quote. This market was firm on last week with the D2 cows making from 220 to 230c/kg and the extra heavy three and four score cows selling from 250 to 264c/kg. Bulls with shape made from 232 to 235c/kg.
