PRIME MARKET – HEIFERS & STEERS TOP AT 480c/kg

There was another mixed quality penning of cattle with not the top end of last week seen here today. Price trends varied from the mainly usual field of buyers of which not all operated fully. The yarding of 627 head, 317 less, saw cows and vealers sell to the best inquiry. These were 10c dearer with prices for some vealers 15c/kg higher. The yearlings sold equal for the best quality but plain to average quality was up to 15c/kg cheaper as were grown heifers. Grown steers were mostly unchanged and bulls eased 5c/kg.

Vealers made from 385c to 480c with yearlings selling from 375c to 428c and a sale was out to 440c whilst restockers paid to 435c/kg. Plain quality yearlings sold from 265c to 360c/kg. Grown steers made from 360c to 402c with Friesians at 331c/kg. Grown heifers sold from 322c to 370c with plainer and dairy bred heifers making from 305c to 325c/kg.

The beef cows sold from 285c to 330c with dairy cows from 275c to 306c and leaner conditioned cows made 240c to 270c/kg. Poor to plain quality cows were making from 218c to 250c/kg. Beef bulls sold from 260c to 284c/kg.
