It was like a store sale here today as most young cattle and the grown steers were purchased to go back on feed. The yarding of 361 cattle, 116 less, were mostly of average to good quality and sold to the usual following of buyers. Prices were generally 20c to 50c/kg dearer for young cattle but mainly equal to slightly higher for the grown steers. Beef cows sold 10c easier and the poorest quality dairy cows made on average 20c/kg less.
The few pens of vealers all sold for further feeding and made between 599c and 706c/kg. The yearling steers also went to feed on and were from 497c to 568c/kg. The yearling heifers to further feed on made 448c to 570c while the odd few that sold to the trade were from 442c to 490c/kg. There were very few plain and dairy bred yearlings this week.
Beef bred grown steers made 450c to 523c and mainly went to restockers. The odd few dairy steers made 380c and 400c/kg.
Beef cows sold between 365c and 430c with the poor to plain conditioned dairy cows from 216c to 348c/kg. There were too few of the lean or better conditioned dairy cows penned this week. Beef bulls made 300c to 340c/kg.
