NUMBERS UP AS COW PRICES KEEP RISING

PHOTO: Cows were hotly contested for today at WVLX Mortlake with HF Richardson selling these two pens for a massive  top of 450c/kg on behalf of Eureka Concrete P/L. The Black Baldy’s (left) averaged $2130ph and the Angus girls (right) returned $2138ph.

Total Yarding: 283

Agents yarded 283 at Mortlake an increase of 142 head comprising 162 export, 101 trade cattle and 8 bulls. Not all the regular buyers were present however feeder competition was active. The quality on offer was much better this week and presenting with more cover.

The sale was generally firm for most categories with the exception of heavy beef cows which were 25c to 30c/kg stronger. Dairy cows were back by 8c to 10c/kg. Vealers with shape made to 467c/kg. Yearling steers and heifers were making between 480c and 512c/kg. Feeders were paying to a top of 512c/kg. Grown steers and heifers made between 390c and 528c/kg with manufacturing steers selling to 378c/kg.

Best beef cows to 400c/kg with the general run making between 340c and 400c/kg. Dairy cows sold from 270c to 340c/kg with the very light dairy cows making from 210c to 242c/kg. Beef Bred bulls to 335c/kg. Cows back to the paddock, chance mated, sold between 388c to 450c/kg.
