COWS STILL STRONG

PHOTO: Cow prices were strong again this week at WVLX Mortlake with Southern Grampians Livestock selling the lighter cow in this pen for a top of 400c/kg, returning $2264ph for Southall Building.

Total Yarding: 141

Agents yarded 141 at Mortlake. Not all the regular buyers were present and feeder competition was active, however, the quality on offer over all was very plain. The sale was generally firm for most categories with the exception of light and medium weight cows which were stronger by 10c to 20c/kg mainly due to the lack of numbers being offered.

Yearling Steers and Heifers made between 488kc/kg and 540c/kg. Grown steers and heifers were making between 430c and 468c/kg. Best Beef cows sold to 400c/kg with the general run making between 322c and 376c/kg. Dairy Cows sold from 278c to 294c/kg with light dairy cows making from 200c to 275c/kg.
