PRICES EASE IN MORTLAKE

Total Yarding: 299

There was a smaller cattle yarding of 299 at Mortlake. Quality was mixed from average to very good. The younger cattle were mostly vealers suiting feeders, restockers and the processors. Less cows were offered, a mixed selection of grown heifers and the Friesian steers made up the majority of the grown steers. Prices were of an easier trend as the younger cattle sold from 20c to 30c/kg cheaper with some sales in places back further. The grown cattle were mostly from 10c to 25c softer with the cows selling from unchanged to 10c/kg easier. 

Good quality vealers to the trade made from 432c to 488c/kg as the restockers and feeders paid from 444c to 470c/kg. Yearling steers to the processors sold from 430c to 474c/kg, plainer steers made from 282c to 380c/kg and steers going onto feed sold from 412c to 455c/kg. Yearling heifers to processors made from 400c to 403c/kg with the heifers purchased by feeders and restockers making from 420c to 472c/kg. 

A limited selection of grown steers sold from 350c to 440c/kg with the feeders paying to 430c/kg. Grown heifers made from 345c to 424c/kg and a few sales to the feeders sold from 378c to 424c/kg. Friesian manufacturing steers made from 320c to 352c/kg selling close to firm. Heavy beef cows sold from 300c to 350c/kg, leaner cows made 250c to 285c/kg and light cows sold from 100c to 160c/kg. Medium weight beef bulls sold from 338c to 344c/kg, a heavy bull to a restocker made 330c/kg and Jersey bulls sold to 230c/kg as bulls sold to firm.
