HEAVY COWS & BULLS SELL STRONGER

There was a lift in cattle numbers to 714 at WVLX Mortlake for the last prime sale of the year. The usual buyers attended as the quality was mostly good. Prices for the larger supply of vealers which took up the majority of younger cattle portion sold from mostly 5c easier with some sales up to 10c/kg cheaper in places. Although there was an excellent quality pen that reached a top of 496c/kg. Restocker competition was steady throughout the sale. The mixed quality grown steers and heifers did have a few variations selling close to firm. A heavier improved penning of cows with weight sold 5c to 10c/kg dearer and the heavy beef bulls also sold to a stronger trend.  

Vealers to the trade mainly sold from 384c to 460c/kg with a sale reaching 496c/kg. Restockers paid mostly from 410c also to 496c/kg for their vealers. Prime yearling steers made from 410c to 430c/kg as restockers paid to 434c/kg. Plainer yearling steers going onto feed sold from 325c to 396c/kg. Heifer yearlings to the processors sold from 400c to 433c/kg with restockers paying up to 425c/kg.     

Heavy grown steers made from 344c to 430c/kg as the feeders and restockers paid from 380c to 414c/kg. Dairy bred manufacturing steers sold from 300c to 340c/kg to sell from firm to 5c/kg dearer. Grown heifers with cover made from 330c to 410c/kg.   

The heavy beef cows sold from 320c to 360c/kg and good quality dairy cows made from 278c to 330c/kg. Heavy Beef bulls made 334c to 358c/kg and the best dairy bull sold to 285c/kg.
