PHOTO: These ripping Limousin X mixed sex cattle topped the market at WVLX Mortlake today when Charles Stewart Nash McVilly sold the pen for a high 556c/kg, returning $2091ph for S Hosgood.

Total Yarding: 1,461

Another large offering of 1,460 cattle at Mortlake this week. The quality was mixed and generally plainer compared to last week’s market over the trade cattle, however, there were some very good vealers on offer and witnessed a 10c to 20c/kg improvement. The yarding comprised 400 grown steers and heifers, 498 trade, 540 cows and 24 grown bulls. All regular processors and feeders were in attendance although not all were active.

Grown steers and heifers remained firm, manufacturing steers were 10c to 15c/kg softer together with medium weight beef and dairy cows also softer by 10c to 15c/kg. Plainer trade cattle were also easier.

The lead of the veal made from 400c to 556c/kg, yearling steers and heifers made from 360c to 428c/kg and the grown steers and heifers topped at 400c/kg. Manufacturing steers sold from 260c to 355c/kg. Good beef cows realized from 300c to 336c/kg with the medium weights from 250c to 292c/kg. Covered dairy cows sold between 235c and 285c/kg with grown beef bulls to 276c/kg.
