TRADE CATTLE SELL FIRM

PHOTO: Topping the bullocks at WVLX Mortlake today was this great pen of Angus X fellas on account of MJ & RF Patterson that went under the Elders Kerr & Co hammer for 540c/kg, $3273ph for 9 and 529c/kg, $3276ph for 8.

Total Yarding: 665

Mortlake agents yarded a similar number to last sale, that of 665 head comprising 450 export and 215 trade cattle. Quality was again good to plain. A near full field of regular buyers were present, but not all fully active at WVLX Mortlake. 

All trade cattle sold to firm demand with the heavier end of the yearling steers to be 20c/kg dearer in line with quality. Grown Heifers and bullocks firm. Manufacturing Steers also remained firm. Heavy weight beef cows were firm to slightly dearer, and dairy cows gained 20c/kg. 

Vealers with shape sold from 530c to 600c topping at 745c/kg. Yearling steers to feed made between 420c and 550c/kg, and to processors from 486c to 540c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed made between 488c and 538c/kg. 

Grown steers made from 465c to 528c/kg. Grown heifers sold to a top of 496c/kg. Manufacturing steers to 425c/kg. Best beef cows to 365c with the general run making between 334c and 365c/kg. Medium weight cows 246c to 332c/kg. Dairy cows 258c to 336c/kg. The better bred cows back to the paddock sold from 285c to 344c/kg.
