PHOTO: Speckle Park cattle have always sold well at WVLX, and today was no different for this pen of Speckle Park Cows which sold for 234c/kg or $1591.20ph!

Agents yarded over double the number of cattle compared to last week. All weights and grades were represented, and the quality was mixed. All regular domestic and export processors were present and operating in a mostly firm to cheaper market. Bidding intensified in the very good offering of yearling cattle, suiting the feedlot buyers, who were keen to fill their orders.

There was a mixed offering of vealers with prices slipping a few cents, steers making between 230c to 270c, while the heifers remained firm 230c to 275c/kg. The best of the trade weight steers sold to average between 258c to 280c, a few cents off the pace, while the best of the trade heifers eased 10c to 15c, making from 248c to 260c/kg. Feeder cattle were slightly cheaper today regardless of competition and supply. Better feeder steers sold between 250c to 281c and heifers sold between 240c to 269c/kg.

A mixed quality grown steers and bullocks were offered, resulting in a firm to cheaper market trend at 220c to 280c/kg. A few good pens of grown heifers sold to lift prices 7c, selling between 240c to 270c/kg. A good offering of well finished beef cows were presented, with the better C3 and C4 types making between 215c to 234c/kg. A small pen of Speckle Park cows made 234c/kg. The better dairy portion averaged 192c/kg. An excelling quality offering of bulls sold to the usual buying group selling between 205c to 240c with only two dairy bulls sold making 206c/kg.
