COW PRICES UP BY 10C/KG

PHOTO: Cow prices were up at WVLX Mortlake today by around 10c/kg and this great pen of Angus cows topped the category when Elders Kerr & Co sold them for 374c/kg, averaging $2814ph for JHW Paterson & Son.

Total Yarding: 109

Agents yarded a very small  number of 109 at Mortlake and not all the regular buyers were present. Feeder competition was again active, however, the quality on offer over all was very plain.

The sale was generally firm for most categories with the exception being cows which were 10c/kg stronger in places mainly due to the lack of numbers.

Yearling Steers and Heifers made between 446kc/kg and 490c/kg with feeders paying to 490c/kg. Grown Steers and heifers were making between 360c and 476c/kg. Best beef cows sold to 374c/kg with the general run making between 324c/kg and 370c/kg with no cows returning to the paddock this week. Dairy Cows made from 270c to 309c/kg.
