MARKET REPORT – STORE CATTLE – THURSDAY 21 MARCH, 2019

PHOTO: Bruce & Ken Davis of Condah Hills had the top price for grown steers today at the WVLX Store Sale, for these three magnificent pens of Angus Steers that LMB Livestock sold for 311c/kg (ave weight 456.3kg). There were 53 cattle across the 3 pens and they were also awarded the Best Presented Pen of Steers! Well done Bruce & Ken!!

Total Yarding: 1,616

There were over 1600 head of cattle for our March store sale. The older steers presented in fantastic condition with plenty of weight on offer and sold to 311c/kg, with cattle consistently reaching over 300c/kg for our heavier steers across all breeds.

Our top priced pen of grown Heifers made 274c/kg and was also the best presented pen of Heifers for the day, awarded to Matt Dimic of Gellibrand River Angus for an outstanding pen of Angus Heifers. The Heifers in general made from 240-260c/kg consistently over most pens.

Open auction Steers topped at $960ph with most making between $600-$880ph. Open auction Heifers made from $500-$700ph. Cows & Calves topped at $1525ph and joined Heifers made $1425ph.

The market was firm to dearer than last month and prices were more consistent during the sale than previous sales. There was a large range of active buyers, including Creek Livestock, Ravensworth, JBS, Teys Australia, John Vella and also buyers from agencies in Ballarat, Hamilton, Colac and Warrnambool, with over 100 bidder cards allocated at the start of the sale.
