MARKET UP ON LAST WEEK

Agents yarded 1,040 cattle this morning at the prime cattle sale in Mortlake consisting of 442 trade, 259 bullocks and 318 cows. Quality improved this week over all categories mostly noticeable with some very presentable milk calves and a very good run of cows. Regular buyers attended with all not operating fully. 

Store competition was active this week in a stronger market where steers were firm to 10c/kg dearer and manufacturing steers firm. Milk vealers were 50c/kg stronger with the trade steers improving by 30c/kg. Cows remained firm to slightly dearer and bulls were softer by 20c/kg.   

Vealers to the trade sold from 400c to 456c/kg. Yearling steers and heifers were making from 370c to 425c/kg. Grown steers and heifers sold from 343c to a top of 393c/kg with manufacturing types to 320c/kg. 

Well presented beef cows topped at 315c/kg, medium weights to 256c/kg and dairy cows from 235c to 290c/kg. Bulls topped at 260c/kg.
