STEERS FIRM TO DEARER THIS WEEK AT WVLX

Total Yarding: 1,061

Agents yarded 1061 cattle at Mortlake this week. A similar number to last week, comprising 310 bullocks, 355 trade, 376 cows and 20 grown bulls. The quality offering this week over most categories was not as good as the previous offering, more so in the trade run. Most of the regular buyers were present however not all operated fully, however store competition was more active this week. 

It was a stronger sale where grown steers were firm to dearer and manufacturing steers were firm. Milk vealers firm to slightly dearer despite the quality offset. Good beef cows were cheaper by 5c to 10c/kg. Dairy cows were firm. Grown beef bulls were 30c/kg stronger. 

Vealers to the trade sold from 365c to 416c/kg. Yearling steers and heifers 342c to 395c/kg. Grown steers and heifers 344c/kg to a top of 401c/kg. Manufacturing steers topped at 340c/kg. Very good beef cows 253c to 310c/kg. Medium cows 200c to 253c/kg. Dairy cows 230c to 280c/kg. Heavy grown beef bulls sold to 290c/kg. and Dairy bulls sold to 225c/kg.
